What is competitor ad research?

Competitor ad research shows you the ads other companies publish, so you can learn which messages and formats they invest in. BigRank collects ads from public ad libraries and shows them with their advertiser and dates.

Where do the ads come from?
The public Google Ads Transparency Center. Facebook and Instagram ads from the official Meta Ad Library are planned, because access needs Meta's approval.
Which formats are covered?
Text, image and video ads.
Can I tell how long an ad has run?
Yes. Each ad shows when it was first and last shown.
Whose ads can I look up?
The ads for your project's domain or for competitors you have added.

What the ads report includes

Ads are read from Google's public Ads Transparency Center, so what you see is what the advertiser published. Each creative is stored once, by hash, with its format, its advertiser and the dates it was first and last shown.

From search to insight

Ad research is about patterns, not single ads. Look at what a competitor keeps paying to show over time, then decide what that says about their offer and yours.

  1. Pick a domain

Use your own domain or one of your added competitors.

  2. Browse the ads

    Scan previews by format.

  3. Check the dates

Look at first and last seen to find long-running ads.

  4. Use what you learn

Adjust your own messaging, offers and keyword targeting.

When teams research ads

Ad libraries show what competitors are willing to pay to say. Use them when you position an offer, plan paid search, look for creative ideas or watch for new campaigns.

  • Positioning

See how competitors describe their offer.

  • Paid search planning

Learn which messages stay live for long.

  • Creative inspiration

Review the visual and video formats in your category.

  • Competitor monitoring

Check back to see when new campaigns start.

Which competitor question are you answering?

Use Competitor Ads to see the paid messages a competitor publishes, SERP Analysis to audit the organic pages that rank for a keyword, and Keyword Research to find the terms worth competing for.

  • Competitor Ads

Browse a competitor's Google ads with previews, formats and the dates each ad was first and last shown. Facebook and Instagram ads are planned.

  • SERP Analysis

Audit the top 10 organic results for a keyword with about 20 checks per page and a top 10 average to compare against.

  • Keyword Research

Expand a seed keyword into related ideas and questions with search intent, to see which terms deserve a page or a campaign.

Competitor Ads FAQ

Answers about daily search limits, planned Meta coverage, duplicate ads, whether you need an Ads account, adding competitors and telling whether an ad is still running.

How many searches can I run?

20 competitor ad searches per day on Max and 50 on Ultra. Pro does not include Competitor Ads.

Does it include Meta ads?

Not yet. Facebook and Instagram ads from the official Meta Ad Library API are planned, because access needs Meta's approval.

Why are duplicates removed?

Creatives are deduplicated by hash so the same ad does not appear repeatedly.

Do I need an Ads account?

No. The data comes from public ad libraries.

Do I need to add competitors first?

Your project's own domain works right away. For other advertisers, add them as competitors in the project, within your plan's competitor limit.

How can I tell whether an ad is still running?

Check its last seen date. A recent date means the ad was still being shown when the data was collected.
